A Mobile Game Design Study Using Gamification and Symbolization Strategies to Promote Daily Physical Activity

Conquer to Fit[HCIK15]

Abstract: In this work we propose mobile health game design through gamification and symbolization to promote daily physical activity. We present an initial implementation of a location aware pervasive game prototype designed by using gamification and symbolization proposed on our w ork. This game was inspired by the old traditional play, the ground of conquer. 6 people tested the prototype and the result was evaluated by focus group interview. In our approach, we resulted four findings of the prototype. Four findings are (1) diffences between location awareness algorithm and users’ mental model of it, (2) decresed motivation when users could not take a proper feedback from the system, (3) importance of symbolization and visual feedback, and (4) need of competition and social support. We suggested significance of future work based on the four findings.
